It told me Philadelphia, and since I've lived in Western North Carolina (the greatest place on Earth) all my life, I raise the following question: Who wrote that quiz, and have they ever been out of their own backyards? They might not even have back yards, bless their hearts.

Funny, when I take that test, it says I have a Bostonian accent. Strange... as I was raised in the middle of Pennsylvania farm country, then moved to Texas.

I have a Midland (no-accent) accent as well (makes sense - I grew up here in Louahvuhl, just across the Ohio River from Southern Indiana). But, if I get reely tahrd, ah starts tuh sound laik I'm frum the countrey.

Apparently I'm as Philly as cheese steak! Very strange. The accent of the rural people in the county where I spend most of my formative years is called the "Queen's Bush Accent" and they sound very much like Bob and Doug Mackenzie. (If you know who they are.) The accent is especially prevalent among people whose families had been there since the mid-19th Century. Latecomers like my family never seem to acquire it.

I got "Inland North" (which for some reason, south of me) - Philadelphia. not knowing anybody from there I can only compare my accent with Wompet (Erie, PA) and he has a distinctly different accent, definatly 'Merican. The test did note that I probably call a carbonated soft drink "pop" which is true as all Canadians call it, I thought all south of the border call it Soda except Texas were they call it Coke.

Bear in mind that I am English by birth (33 years removed) and I started learning my Canadian accent within weeks of arrival. Whereas my brother is still as thick as his English accent. It's interesting that because I made such an effort to become assimilated I can start picking up others accent inadvertantly, I once spent 3 days in Montreal and left speaking like a Frenchman dere in broken Hinglish. Yet today, for some reason, I cannot carry off a convincing Southern English accent. Of note about TV broadcasters here, the capital of Ontario, on TV is pronouced TOE-RON-TOE, whereas it's typically pronouced TRAWNA by the natives. So yes our TV presenters have have an American midwest accent. CNN's John Roberts (we remember him as J.D.) & Peter Jennings are from Toronto, Alex Trebek from Sudbury. I wonder if those in the US hear(d) any accent from them?
