I will fall in line with what has been stated above.. Tartan flashes with argyle or diced hose = too busy.. Time to take it just a bit easy..
And that reminds me, I ordered tartan hose, so I'll be needing solid garter ties..
Any recommendations?

I only have two pair of solid color flashes. One from usakilts that uses metal hook closure, and the other I don't recall where they came from, but they're velcro. I much prefer the usakilts type, though.

What about the garter ties? Where do you all get yours?

I am not keen on tartan flashes at any time, but I think they would be overdoing it with the hose you have in mind.Unless you come from the western and very far north of the highlands where more loud attire is worn by some on occasion. As to red flashes, I wouldn't worry too much about all this matching up nonsense if I were you.

Here's a good source. They are UK based though and I'm not sure if their free delivery offer extends to the US. I imagine not. You could always get in touch via the 'contact us' page and enquire about overseas shipping.
These garters and shooting socks are made by a Scottish company called House of Cheviot based in Hawick Scotland and they also make Kilt hose as well. I bought a pair of argyle topped, Loden Green socks and a pair of matching green with red trim garter ties over the counter of a huntin', shootin' an' fishin' shop in Yorkshire last weekend. Wore them to the pub with my Bruce Modern and got as many compliments about my socks as I did my Kilt. They knock the spots off my other budget, ebay kilt hose but then again they are three times the price. Great investment though and I love them. The Makers don't seem to have a webshop but you can contact them direct through this site

Being color blind has made me a little more self-conscious about matching clothes items. Thanks for your advice!

Sorry to be late to the party, but here's my $0.02....
While I don't personally care for tartan flashes in general, I certainly think they would be a bit much to wear with argyle hose.
I'd agree that red flashes do seem to work well with *almost* any color hose, though I'd be wary of clashing if you happen to have hose of an unusual hue.

While I don't any tradtional garter ties yet myself, I eventually plan to get some from the Scottish Tartan Museum.
