Yes, I e-mailed them (the corporate address) promptly after I read the original post. I received a very quick reply shortly thereafter from a Patrick McBride, who asked me which location this was so that he could look into it personally. I just finished e-mailing him back after I got the info from Jim as to where exactly he went.

Am I glad that we live within 3 miles of one of the best Irish pubs in the country. It's the real deal. Thunderbolt, his wife and I went there this evening for a Guinness toast. The place was full. There was a good Celtic band. They even had a piper as one of the band members. The head bartender and I had a discussion about the kilt that he wants to get for St Patrick's Day. I had a customer stop and ask me where I got my kilt -- he's wanted to get one for himself, his son, and his son-in-law. I was wearing my USA Ireland's National, so I told him. Thunderbolt also had someone ask him about his kilt. All in all, positive.
No one, questioned what's under the kilt.

To get back to the topic, these discussions are really helpful as they prepare each of us to deal with these situations when they arise. I've learned some really good responses, and to never give a direct answer to "the question."

This bouncer was way out of line! I like the "depends on how warm your hands are" line.

I emailed the Newark location and politely suggested the offending bouncer me taken over to Phoenixville and fitted with a USA Kilt and made to wear it while on duty - in the hope he would develop some empathy for kilties as he gets asked "the question" over and over and over.

In this age of enlightenment, with proper regard for decency, perhaps we should consider the need, or not, of wearing underwear unless of course Military Regulations forbid. I've yet to see any Regulation which demands that underwear should NOT be worn, but stand to be corrected.
Having seen the antics of some 'irregular' kilt wearers, i.e. those who hire kilts only for special occasions, I can see why some drinking establishments might want to make sure kilted patrons behave in a proper manner, and forbye, they ridicule the wearing of the kilt by acting in this way.
Bear in mind the old saying "Never drink on an empty heid".

While kilted, I'd go back and talk to the manager, then pull a crisp $20 bill out of my sporran, snap it in front of his face and say, "Take a good look at this $20 because you'll never see it again. I'm taking my business elsewhere."Nulty
