Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have some English blood in my veins (and arteries) and that I have always lived almost as far as one can get from Scotland whilst remaining on the British mainland, but I do not recall ever seeing a deerstalker being worn down here - other than on a theatrical stage! "Come to think about it, I do not recall ever seeing one being worn in Scotland either" - but then I am not in the habit of stalking up there ....... or anywhere really. On the day I met Jock, he was sporting a fine Balmoral but nor was he stalking at the time (I believe he was on his way to the Bank actually!).

Seriously, it suits you Jamie and you wear it well - just don't expect to see me wearing one (unless I am giving one of my performances)!

    Take care,
    Ham.
Actually Hamish, there were four deer stalkers all wearing deer stalkers made of a rather fine estate tweed, if I may say so, just by the exit of the Commando memorial, when we were there!

Well, Jock, that just goes to prove how unobservant I am! Were they 'yours' by any chance?

    Take care,
    Ham.

    Nighthawk,

Well your wife has excellent tastes then...

That is the Galbraith Ancient tartan, but the same tartan is used by the Hunter and Mitchel families, also it was (in the same ancient colors) used by the Billy Mitchel pipe band for the Air Force. This particular kilt was made by Matt Newsome and is one of his 5 yard knife pleat models.

    Cheers

Indeed they were. I rather think that they thought that I was going straight to the bank!

Jaime. I think it works wonderfully. And I even think the slip-on shoes work for a walking outfit.

Hamish and Jock: The deerstalker actually gets worn fairly often in Glasgow. There are a lot of older and some younger gents who have it as everyday attire there.
While I was in school there was an old highland man who wore his Kilt and tweed jacket with a deerstalker EVERY day. He would go on a long walk all around the local park and had such a fine bearing and obvious confidence that none of the school children ever made fun of him.

    Wear it well, Jamie!
