    A new, simply fabulous phrase: the 50-yard kilt

    Hi folks,

    Bart-in-a-Kilt has coined a phrase in one of his postings, and it is so good that I wanted to daylight it from a thread in the kiltmaker's forum:

    a 50-yard kilt - one that looks best from 50 yards away.....

    I'm still laughing.

    I've got one of those. When it's in the wardrobe with the door closed, it looks fantastic - it even fits better there!

    Regards

    For some of us it is not just the kilt that looks better from 50 yards.

    That is funny.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

    Wow, I didn't realize how high my standards were. . . back in September when I spoke of making 5-foot kilts. . .*

    I can just see the new "X Marks Kilt Rating System" now.

    1 yard Kilt - An Authentic Tewksbury
    5 yard Kilt - Pretty darn good Kilt
    10 yard Kilt - A good attempt at Kiltmaking
    25 yard Kilt - Did you spend money for that?
    50 yard Kilt - No, your not 50 yards away yet, keep going.

    Then such ratings as;

    As pleasant as Robert.
    Customer service almost as good as Rocky.
    Shipping slightly slower than Jerry.
    Didn't yell at me as much as Steve.

    Then when the new Kilt owner posts a picture they can say things like;

    My Hamish Mark II pose
    My Derek cutout
    My shabby attempt at a Panache (But then, any attempt to emulate Panache would be shabby at best.)

    I wear the kilt because:
    Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

    So, would that be one of the legendary 'never to be mentioned else you will be blackballed from the customer list' Lady Chrystel Septuple Box Pleat kilts?

    Can't imagine the wind getting the better of you with that one, but would the elevators go up, or would you have to take the stairs?

    Yes, I saw the potential for confusion between "viewing distance" and "content of kilt" ! Kilted Michelin Man, anybody?
