My pleasure. Glad to be of assistance.

I, too, wonder about the Culloden tartan proposal as I was also planning on making a Highland coat out of it.

I mean no offense to our British friends or anyone else for that matter, but as an American, I'm not wearing a red coat unless it's for a re-enactment. For piping, I have a patrol tunic in forest green that was made by Burnets & Struth.

Why not? Musicians in the US Army wore them at one time, and the US Marine Band and the "Old Guard" (3rd Infantry) Fife & Drum Corps still wear them with no issues to their nationality.

The Revolution ended in 1781. American and British blood mixed together on other battlefields since then as friends and allies.

I prefer what the Black Watch say about the Revolution:

We can boast no Battle Honours for our part in the American War of Independence,
because it was rightly decreed that Battle Honours should not be granted for a war with our kith and kin.

    Quite right too.

I know Missy and Larry Clark of Barkerstown. Good, fair people. I would suggest a red sleeved waistcoat unless you want a tartan coat/Jacobite style. Missy does a great job with these. A red sleeved waistcoat would be undress for F and I War period, very comfortable and it does not designate you with any regiment.....just a Highland Battalion of the time. Malcolm MacWm., 42nd RHR GrenCoy, Army Sjt. Major, British Brigade (and 77th GrenCoy, Montgomery's Highlanders.....you can see our 18th century uniforms at www.muskets-of-the-crown.org)
