Here's a 'Sgian Khukri' made for a guy whose grandfather fought alongside the Gurkhas in WWII.
The blade is titanium to keep the weight down.

Local antler for the handle and ebony with silver pins for the sheath and handle caps.

I made a matching kilt pin as well

Now that's a neat idea. My grandfather served in the China-Burma-India Theatre during WWII, and greatly admired the "Happy Warriors" from Nepal. Hmmm...do I need another sgain dubh?

That is an amazing piece Rab!

Admittedly I don't know very much about metals in general but how would titanium hold an edge? My guess is that it's brittle but perhaps with the magic of heat....
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

No, titanium dosn't take that good an edge although it is used in some diver's knives. It's not that it's brittle, just a bit too soft for a good edge although it is tough.
However, it should be able to tackle the occassional haggis

It's a good thing I prefaced that comment with the fact that I don't know very much about metals. I thought that titanium was exceptionally hard...apparently hard isn't the same as tough...good to know.
