Solid hose w/ Argyll Cuff-Forum opinion needed!

    Hey Gang-
I want every one's opinion on this. I'm dealing with the 78th frasers tartan, which to me is one of the...well....its nice, but it certainly stands out. I have 2 samples for solid hose w/ argyll cuffs. They are shown in the picture. Please indicate which you like better...My wife chose one, but said it was the lesser of 2 evils (She doesn't like orange)...Anyway, your thoughts will help me decide what to use. These hose BTW are one piece. The argyll cuff is made with the solid color, so the hose is all one piece-Not 2 Thanks-Josh

I like the Orange body with the two different Greens in the Argyll portion. However I think that we really need to see the entire outfit together with both hose options to really see if everything is going to balance correctly.

My opinion is that the orange stocking with the green argyle cuff would provide the best balance. The green stocking would give contrast. It really would help to see both below the kilt, which is itself beautifully stridant.

Try explaining to your wife that you are the trophy husband and must look your part. Attention to you is attention to her.

My regards to you and your lovely wife,

You're right...Problem though. I only have a swatch-Thats why I included the pics. A poor substitute, I know. Maybe I can find someone in Atlanta to give me some sort of 78th something that is bigger than a swatch. thanks though for the input.

You could always go for the Military look and wear diced hose:

These hose are for non-squad formal attire (Fraser Old-Boys). I'm trying to be careful..Let me say this-These aren't for me.- Don't laugh at this picture, although it is comical-Just for comparison-

I like the orange the best. Admittedly, I'm a Fraser so I'm partial to the tartan to begin with

Question...could the leg match the blue and have the cuff on the left?

    Pardon my improvised photo-chop

All in all, I like the general appearance except that the green leg is just too close to Lime green to be in such a large area

I still think the Orange body is the way to go.

I think that your whole outfit needs to be looked at - those military men are 'coordinating' their hose with their red coats, and the tartan is fairly incidental in the colour scheme.

With some jackets the green might be more appropriate, with others the orange hose - it is all a matter of getting the overall effect right.

    Orange-

    Here's why:

If you were designing an Argyll hose to match this tartan it would be predominately orange with blue and green diamonds. Although the orange is a bit bright for hose, it wouldn't be as "visually jarring" as the green hose beneath the predominately orange tartan of the kilt. It just seems to tone better as orange.

For what it's worth, I really think that the best option would be diced hose using the orange and the dark blue. It just looks classier and doesn't have the "neither fish, nor fowl" look that solid hose with argyll tops presents.

    Cordially,

    David
