			Box Pleat Kilt

My wife and I made this one last May. We went to a friend's house for "hog maw", baked cabbage, and wine the other night and I thought the German culture needed a touch of Highland kilt and leather! Malcolm

Nice job on the box pleat kilt. I really like that tartan. What type of fabric is it? Is it a named tartan?
That sporran is outstanding. A bit of info on it as well, please?

Welllllll, it is a wool or a wool blend, very soft and tight weave. Found it in a fabric shop for a good Scottish price and couldn't pass on it!! I don't believe it's a recognized tartan but would like to have someone ID it as close to some clan tartan? In my Tartan book it's close to Davidson or Gunn without the red lines?? The sporran is our regimental sporrans, our own design which we make ourselves. It's similar to ones we have seen in paintings of 18th century Highland officers although their cantels tend to be a bit more rounded. My sporran is used and abused....15 years old and seen many a' campaign and battle.

You look good in leather. Did you make that too?
And yes, I noticed the leather garters as well. Tell us more about those?

The leather garters are 18th century for holding up bag hose with kilt, or hose with knee breeches. Very common among reenactors since there was no 18th century elastic and knit hose was like bag hose. The hose I have on were a retirement gift from my art teacher at my elem. school and without the garters, they fall down! The leather vest is from Wilson leather , but my wife redid it. The snaps are hidden under the strip of tartan down the front, and the ties at the side are matching tartan instead of the original leather laces. When I was principal, I would wear the vest with kilt to my elem. school sometimes. Central administration (supt. of schools, ***'t supt., etc.) looked askance at this, but you know, they never seemed to bother me too much.... Malcolm
