I was thinking that one of stillwaters thrifty kilts would be just the thing. although one would have to pin the velcro or risk a pre release!

Under the right conditions, how about a Sport Kilt Hiking Kilt -- microfiber, especially in warm weather. You wouldn't have to worry about it getting wet.

I think that would be a great one for the job.
I think a USA casual would work very well also. Perma pleat system, teflon coating, and made of PV.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I have a standard SWK in Leatherneck tartan that I never wore before purchasing the wool version. I think it'll be just the thing for fishing--or any other outdoor activity that might get damp.
This is a great thread with some great photos.

Well, there are no photos of this (thank goodness!) but I once stuffed myself and a SWK economy into a pair of chest waders. Not a recommended strategy, but the water was about 55 degrees F, and shrinkage of the kilt was the last thing on my mind.
