Ugh. Tried it once with my UK. Never again. DFW airport scanners went haywire with all the metal snaps. Had to get wanded, and obviously the DFW TSA employees have never seen a kilt before. They didn't quite know how to handle it. I can laugh about it now, but was frustrating at the time.

Depends on the airport. Flown out of Cincinnati many times, and a UK original sets off the detector. Just got wanded, no big deal.
Flown out of Newark and Scranton, and walked through in a workman's and didn't set anything off.
