    1915 Waltham Pocket Watch

A while ago there was quite a bit of talk about Pocket Watches. I decided to go onto ebay and see what I could find. I thought instead of one of those new chrome pocket watches, or the type that costs about $10.00 I would pick up the best one I could afford. Well I found a Waltham from 1915 that was running and won it. My only problem was that I did not have a watch chain for it, again I started looking for a vintage chain, I found one after some searching that was not quite the same vintage the chain is from the 1960 or 1970's. The Chain came in yesterday morning, and I finally got the entire thing together, I'm really happy with it, now it feels like the waistcoat is complete, so onto the photos:

Very nice indeed! My Father never owned a wrist watch, (he was born in 1879), but did have a very nice Elgin, which I still have.

He bought it for (I think) his 30th birthday. If I can get the necessary cash ahead, I intend to have it cleaned, and refurbished and start wearing it.

Just beware; Waltham Watches your every move!

That sounds absolutely exquisite, Mcmurdo. Congratulations on your new, old friend.

That sets things off nicely, well done. May I give you a wee tip? The T bar of the chain is normally threaded from the outside of the waistcoat so that it sits out of sight on the inside. Why? You will find that the chain hangs from the centre(ish) of the waistcoat and looks better.. Of course it may be that you are stamping your way of doing things. In which case ,"shut up Jock".

Well, if Jock is going to give watch tips, why not.

Only wind it once a day; it's easier on the spring.
Avoid snapping the lid close by pushing the release button down when you close it; that will prevent some wear and tear on the lip of the lid.
Be careful with seatbelts and the chain and other things like that...

    Sorry, I'll shut up too.

Great watch! I've been looking on the 'Bay for an old mechanical watch for a while, but haven't gotten one yet. Gotta keep looking.

About the T-bar, old pictures show there was no standard as to inside or out, particularly with single Albert chains. What buttonhole, what pocket, etc., seems to have been up to personal preference.

    Cheers,
    Nick

Thanks Jock, Ted, and Nick I've had pocket watches in the past, just not any of this vintage, I've also never had a chain with the single Tbar, I'll try out your suggestions. This is yet another reason I love this forum, thanks again for the tips.

Nice looking watch. I like the pentagonal loop for the watch chain. What does the back look like?
