So now I'm a Peacock!

My wife has let us say been tolerant of my "obsession" with kilts. I admit 6 or seven kilts in as many months my be a wee bit enthusiastic, but hey that's the kind of guy I am.

Last night I got an earful about why she had "problems" with my wearing kilts; they broke down to three main items:

1. Her "ick" factor. Basically, something like I have always been a big "guys" guy, and wearing a skirt (she varies between kilt and skirt) is "Kinda" disturbing. (showed her pictures of Sir Sean et al, response was "that's different")

2. She states that when I wear the kilt I'm showing off. Saying "look at me!", maybe she right, I have always been a bit of a ham, but then as I look at it, so what? (Hum, black jeans, black cowboy hat, silk shirt, Lucassie boots and spurs isn't saying LOOK AT ME?)

3. This is the doozy; when I am wearing the kilt I show her up. My bride is shall you say striking, always has been, probably always will be. Her genetics are .25 Russian, .25 Swedish, .25 Norwegian and .25 Alaskan Native. She turns heads. She says when I wear the Kilt people notice me, not her and that bothers her, I am a peacock to her hen!

So there it is, I'm a Peacock. A 240 lbs, 5'10 kilt wearing Peacock. Ah, but I'm a darn fine looking Peacock! Now where's me Peacock feathered cloak?ith:

Don't know how to help you, but one of my friends called my kilt rooster feathers for a while.

I'm not at the peacock stage but i'm sure i'll get there. Lucky me my spouse like me in the kilt.

I think your wifes biggest hang up is that 3rd one. And to be frank you might get the first look.....but she probably gets the second and last looks.

No doubt, she's built and has a face that could launch ten thousand ships; not to mention the salt and pepper hair that is completely natural (no bleach or dye) and a smile that will melt the coldest heart, how she could think that just cause I'm wearing anything people would pass on her is beyond me.

Now, get her dolled up in something black, light and lacy,put on her stones, and I could be in a Montrose Doublet with Jabot collar and slaves, full diced hose and a fly and people would say wow did you see that Lady with that bald guy?

There ain't a whole lot of opportunities for the guy in a straight couple to be the peacock so enjoy it while you can. And remind her that when you take off the kilt you no longer are the peacock, but she is still beautiful no matter what she is (or isn't) wearing.

I get the skirt thing every time I even talk about wearing the kilt. My wife is more worried that I am DRAWING attention to her than taking it away from her, and does not like it. Figure that one out. Guess it is that "embarassed to be seen with me in a kilt" thing going on.

My wife picked up right away the first time we attended a Highland Games that it was an opportunity for the men to shine.

The guys look good, dress well, take pride in their appearance. Quite different from the usual grubby jeans and a t-shirt for instance. Wise women who are secure in themselves don't mind letting the men have one place to show off.

Skirt. Well, it is a skirt. But.

None of us can compete with Sir Sean.

My wife has a lot of the same issues and she's fine with my "skirts". She actually really likes them, but thinks it's odd, too. She easily sees the difference between wearing shorts and a t-shirt and one of my kilts and thinks it's funny how much taller I stand with the kilt.

I have often joked that kilt wearing, especially tartan kilts with all the trimmings, is my way of displaying my inner peacock.

While not discounting your wife's feelings, I still say that there is no way a kilted man can outshine an attractive woman, no matter how good he looks.

My wife prefers the kilt and would prefer me to wear a kilt more often. She has nothing to worry about in the looks department. We've been together over 30 years, and she still turns heads when she enters a room. Unfortunately since moving to a rural area from the San Francisco bay area we go out less often (dinner parties and elegant restaurants are not part of the life style here.)

Give your wife some time, she will come to realize that your wearing a kilt is nothing more than you being the frame for the lovely painting that she is.

You could always play it that although you wearing a kilt brings attention to you as a couple, after the initial perusal most folks are going to be looking at and admiring her beauty, so it is actually an attention getter for her in the long run.
