I'm sure lots of other people have done similar things, but I've never heard of them and I thought that this may give other infrequent kilters an idea.
Good idea. Going kilted is nothing more than developing the habit of thinking about the kilt as part of your wardrobe.
Today was my first kilt day so I strapped on my SWK and headed out. I had three notable comments.
The first was from the bank teller. She asked, "What are you doing in your kilt today?" I've never been asked that and I wasn't quite sure how to answer. I mumbled out, "Going to the bank and some other errands." I didn't mean to be rude, but I didn't expect that question.
That sounds like a good answer to me.
Second, I was at the library and a woman came up to me to say, "I never thought a man could wear a skirt and make it look so masculine." I was so flattered that I didn't bother to tell her that it's a kilt.
Nice compliment.
The third comment was really odd. I was at a store that sells bulk herbs and spices. A lady walked over to me and said she couldn't believe I'd wear a kilt on such a cold day. (It was 17F here with windchills in the single digits.) Before I could answer, she launched into a rant about nylons and how it had to be a man who invented them. Women have to wear them and they're too expensive and they run the first time you wear them and they're uncomfortable and you'll never see a man having to wear them. I was speechless as she left the store still railing against nylons. Yikes!
All in all it was a good first weekly kilt day. I hope this idea may help others wear their kilts more!
