Options for carrying your junk

The Stillwater ballistic nylon sporran is good, and my standby is simply a ten dollar Jansport black "fanny pack" (now all our UK members go into paroxyms of laughter) or "bum bag" slung around the front. Pockets are clearly the ticket, whenever possible, but they're a challenge to build, for a DIY schmuck like me..

BUT....

What other non-traditional sporran options have you hit upon to carry your schtuff?

Personally I quite like the offerings from this lady by name of Jennifer Cantwell, based in Inverness, and though they are definitely "sporrans" I don't think our traditional guys will be wearing them any time soon. Something like this could be used to "dress up" a contemporary kilt without going full-on *Sporran* and still give you someplace to stash your trash.

Alan,

I am fond of using my green Swiss Army brand messenger bag for lugging around extra kit at the Highland Games. I also have another messenger bag (by AAA) for my water bottle, snack, binoculars, and my Audobon's guide in addtion to my SWK nylon sporran when on the trail.

I also have a messenger bag from Sportsman's Guide for extra gear. I also have a Coleman brand water bota, and a fanny pack with small water bottles (2 of them) for long treks. I can go a long time without food, but not H2O! (The kidneys were damaged by heart failure many years ago!)

As for sporran substitutes, I prefer my old leather fanny pack which affords ample room for all sorts of gear for an outing.

On the other hand, I would never go out without a proper sporran unless it was for a strenuous hike or some such. The above items are for very special events only.

I really like some of the Sporran Nation stuff. I appreciate the effort to move a design stereotype forward in innovative ways. Now... would I wear one of her creations? I guess that depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing...

If I need more than a Nightstalker sporran, then I break out my REI small backpack.

I don't wear a sporran, so I bought a repo Mark VII gas mask bag in July.

It served me very well through Highland games season. I went for a repo rather then the real thing, I thought I could put a new one through a ton of punishment.
