I saw a recipe for a homemade paste that claimed it worked great getting rid of stains on pewter:

I broke out the 3M Tarni-Sheild and went to work. After an hour and a half:


I was very happy!

I went to the local dollar store and picked up a small balsa wood box:

I cut some cotton and silk to line the box:

I then took the silk and cotton out and coated the box with Linseed oil:

While waiting for the box to dry I used very fine steel wool to buff out the scratches on the bowl and gave the entire Quaich a good buffing.
When the box was dry I glued the cotton and silk back in the box and let it dry:
