    1. Find a cheapo jacket at a thrift shop.
    2. Get a pattern from a sewing shop.
    3. Take cheapo jacket and pattern to an alterations shop.
    4. Have alteration shop use the back of the jacket to make the waistcoat.
    5. Come back in a week, write the cheque, go home with your new, bespoke, waistcoat.

Picked up a cheap green vest/waistcoat for St. Paddy's day wear last week from www.uniformalwear.com. If I recall, came to $27 including shipping

    Waistcoat and Argyle

I recently purchased an argyle jacket and waistcoat from:

    http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/bobili...Q_fromZQQ_mdoZ

and am very pleased with the quality. Good heavy weight wool in both, great service, and a price that I have not seen beat anywhere.

    Good Luck,

    David

These Shawl Lapel Eton Jackets from Uniformal could pass for a formal kilt jacket to the unschooled or non traditionalist. I remember a thread where they were discussed here recently but can't find it... Soz!
