Proof of purchase?

Greetings all,

I was wondering if anyone has encountered difficulties with customs agents when bringing a kilt on their travels?

What I mean to say is that how do you prove your kilt is not new and that you did not buy it on your travels if you went to the UK for example?

Do you carry a copy of the bill of sale where you bought from along with you?

Any ideas? Sorry if this was already on another thread.

Well for that matter they can't prove that it is a new purchase. I doubt they'll give you a hassle about it. They might if you have haggis wrapped up in it LOL

For that matter, how do they porove that your shirts, pa$^ts and other wardrobe items were bought on your trip.

Declare what you buy and you should have no problems.

I'd have to agree with Wallace, I've never had a problem with my kilts while traveling though.

That... and if it's a Tank, you probably didn't buy it on Vacation. At least, not unless you ordered well in advance and had a clever scheme to save on shipping by flying yourself to the UK to pick it up.

In over 25 yrs of travelling the 4 corners of the globe, I have never been challenged about the length of time or origins of my Regalia. I guess if you anticipate that there might be problem, carry the appropriate forms. It might also be that they expect to find certain items of Regalia in a Scotsman's luggage.

When I went to Scotland last year I took two jacket waistcoat combos and one kilt made in the USA (and clearly labelled as such) as well as three kilts I had imported to the US from scotland before the trip. I took copies of the receipts for anything of significant value that either came from Scotland originally or that was not marked as to site or origin, just in case I got asked. I also declared the few things I did buy while I was there. Never a problem, never got asked, but was ready in case I did.
