It's a great exhibition isn't it? I was particularly fascinated by the vast collection of medals on display.

we didn't have that much time to have a good look (spent too much time going round the castle), as we needed to get over to tillicoultry before the shops closed but it was good viewing.

Edinburgh castle is our next wee jaunt

Strange they should have so much Gordon tartan on display there! Either way, I'd really like to get up to the Highlands and explore some of the old regimental bases.

My grandfather was Sutherland. Thanks so much for sharing the photos. One of these days I plan to go the County Sutherland for a visit.

That's not the Gordon regimental tartan, though. I believe that is the Lamont tartan from the old 74th Argyll Highlanders.

Scroll down or use the "find" feature for "Lamont" or "74th".

Lord it's good having Todd around here. I was about to chime in myself about what I thought was a Gordon tartan.

Where can we see something of that old Lamont tartan? My good friend, SouthernScot, would be interested since he is a Lamont. As am I.

TBH, i looked closely to the kilt in the second pic, and where it was worn away at the top, it didn't look as if it was heavy wool, it kinda looked strange, papery looking if you know what i'm trying to discribe
