I'll be wearing mine...any excuse is a good one. I'm also loaning out two to my co-workers. My goal is to get the general population to realise they aren't so bad. Maybe someday it'll be as wide spread as women wearing jeans. Would that be so bad?

On April 4, our local Scottish Society is presenting a Children's Scottish Hour at the Camp Hill, PA library. As an educator, I was put in charge, so we hope to have 20 to 30 young people, grades 1 to 5 with parents present. I'll do a slide show of Scottish "stuff" (castles, landscapes, bagpipers, kilts, etc.), just to whet the appetite. Then, some children's stories (I'll read Wee Gillis by Munro Leaf and tell the story of Robert the Bruce and the spider), a demo of bagpiping by the Society's chief piper, some simple flute music by me, a clothing demo as ! put a young lad in a kilt and a young lady in an arisaid, and then some crafts (spider web with spider, stamping activity with map of Scotland, a tartan ribbon pin, etc.). Each parent will receive a Tartan Day pin. I'm hoping for a great turn out. Oh, and I'll be in kilt....for sure!! Happy Tartan Day.....soon to come!

I will be helping design a new angio-interventional suite for my radiology department----kilted.
When i come to work kilted I get people from all over the hospital taking detours through radiology just to try to get a glimpse of the "kilted doctor". Unfortunately I spend most of my day behind closed doors working from my office.
Interestingly, one of the options for radiation protection in an angio suite is a lead lined kilt and vest as opposed to the usual lead apron. Unfortunately/fortunatley the kilt is not pleated, else the backside would be extremely well protected and the whole thing weigh about three times what it is supposed to. I used to have a kilt and vest at my last job but opted instead for an apron when I ordered one for here. If I come across a picture I will post it sometime.

I cannot go kilted at work. But, I'm taking the day off to attend the San Jacinto Memorial Ceremony, a commemoration of the Scots that helped contribute to Texas that is to be held at the San Jacinto Battleground near Houston. Of course I will be kilted. This will be held right after the San Antonio Highland Games weekend, which is always scheduled closest to Tartan Day. I think some Irish, like Zardoz, will be attending, but we're not expecting any trouble.

Tartan Day Participation
Just as a Burns Dinner expands over more than just the designated day, I plan to participate in Tartan Day the following ways:
1. Kilt Night Hampton Roads VA SA, 4/4
2.Tartan Day in Fredericksburg VA SU 4/5 @Hugh Mercer's Apothcary Shop with the Fredericksburg Scottish Society
3. Kilted Work Day MO 4/6 with an after work visit to the Fredericksburg Pub
Now for the attire on all occasssions will be a lttle loud. As I will be wearing my new Orvis Authentic Scottish Tartan Vest with with my Black Watch Sport Kilt!
