It was funny when the lady suggested a combination of two tartans and Mr. Clanless said it was against "Scottish tartan law."
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Perhaps Clanless should just buy a universal tartan like Blackwatch etc...

I don't recall exactly, but it's only a couple of hours. You wouldn't have to make it an overnight trip or anything like that.

Entertaining short film.
McCoig is part of the MacLeods-according to the Clan MacLeod website and a helpful comment under the video.
Having ties to clan Macfie, I knew he wasn't a Macfie, shame he spent money on the merchandise.
Museum was interesting also-It's shame it's so far out of the way. I'd like to go some day. Maybe I can make it a father son weekend before he starts school next year!

Peacekeeper,
Franklin and Hickory are 2 1/2-3 hours apart. Franklin is in the western end of the state, and Hickory is heading east toward Charlotte. If you visit your sister in Hickory, the STM would make a really nice day trip. You'll pass right by me on the way! I'd be glad to give you some landmarks and points of interest to see on the journey, if you're so inclined.

Interesting. I had never seen that video before! I must have been away from the museum on the day he came by.
I had to go look up the name "MacCoig" after watching this. In Tartan For Me, by Phil Smith, the MacPhee tartan is recommended for the name. I'm sure that was the reference he must have used in our museum, as we do have that book. However, while that book is our standard "go to" for initial look-ups, because of its great number of names, it is also not without error, and I always try to cross check it when possible with another reference.
I do kind of wonder why he showed the MacLeod crest with the Wallace tartan early on in the video.....
