Picking up on the topic of losing weight, is it possible to have a kilt altered to a smaller waistline, (not just cinching the straps) without ruining the kilt?

    This just isn't right.

Having lived in Maryland for four and a half years, I can't imagine it getting that cold; however, even if it did, there are some things that should just not be done. This is one of them.

I honestly don't see a problem here. According to many people's position, the kilt is just another article of clothing. And if so, all my other clothes I layer when it gets really cold. I would think that back in the olden highland days, if they had a really brisk one they wouldn't hesitate to double up on the warmth. It's practical.

Yes, this can be done by removing entire pleats. It is fairly time-consuming (take off waistband) and pleats may need to be removed from both sides to keep the rear pattern centered. Worthwhile for tanks or rare tartans, maybe not worthwhile for less expensive versions. There have been other threads dedicated to the topic, with more info. I don't have the time right now to do that search but you can give it a try, search for "altering" maybe?
