All have been very helpful. I hope some day to visit Scotland, and wear the kilt in a manner that does not cause tea to pass through the local's noses in laughter at my appearance.
I believe it was Rathdown that mentioned one time that club/regimental/school ties need not necessarily match exactly with a tartan or shirt; Noted kiltmaker Bob Martin discusses this as well in his book All About Your Kilt.
Personally, I love to see a crested or striped club/regimental tie with a kilt. I recently posted a photo of HRH the Duke of Rothesay wearing a Gordon Highlanders regimental tie with day attire -- of course the caveat to this post being that a person should not wear a tie they are notentitled to.
