			Double check, triple check ...

I just started on my xmts kilt.
Usually I rip off 69 cm including a 3 cm hem.

This time I measured 66 cm total length off a finished kilt and then subtracted 3 cm because steve already had it hemmed.

I measured, double checked my measurement ...
you can see where itīs going.
Now I will have to make a very wide waist band to save it!
 s§!t !!

So double check your thinking too!

					Been there, done that...... twice.
Maybe there is a wanting sole that needs a shorter kilt than you need. I keep it in mind just in case I can find someone in need of an X-marks kilt.

My father and I used to do some carpentry together as a hobby. We worked well together because the things he might forget or neglect I wouldn't, and vice versa. Out motto was a variation of the carpenter's motto, " Measure twice, ASK SOMEBODY ELSE TO CHECK YOUR MEASUREMENTS, then cut once." For the many years we worked on rpojects together we never screwed up a build becasue of poor measurements. WQe now have several heirloom pieces of furniture (custom cherry cradle honoring the birth of my first son, for example) to pass on down the family tree.

My father, brother and I were building one of those drive-through-when it's raining-to-let-old-folks-out-of-the-car roofs over the entry to a church once, and between us and the volunteers from the church who were there to "help", there was a lot confusion, and a measuremnet got tranferred incorrectly from the measurer to the sawyer and something got cut wrong. The preacher thought this was funny and said, "You cut it off and cut it off and it's still too short." It's not really funny when you see it in print, but it was hilarious that day.
Maybe the mis-measured tartan could be turned into a wasitcoat or fly plaid or something?

good thing the tartan is symmetric so it doesn't matter whether you cut out your extra piece for the waistband in the warp or weft direction from your remnants, as the tartan lines can still be aligned, at least on the aprons (not the fell).
