    Picky picky picky

I think it's an aesthetic choice by the artist. You gotta admit, being up in the air looks cooler than having them on the ground.

Cooler? Nah, not to someone who knows what's what for the sword. Although we say we dance over the swords, we actually dance around and inside the swords.

So where's a video of you dancing?

All teasing aside, yes, that is very cool. I'm probably a little old to try to start learning how to Highland Dance, so I'll just live vicariously through my daughter when she's old enough to start lessons (she's almost 1)

Squeaky, when I can get my friends to post a video, you shall all see! Unless it's the Irish Jig. Stupidest costume anywhere.... But, if anyone is in Nova Scotia this summer, I'll be making my Premier category debut at the Pugwash Highland Gathering and competing at the various games in the province.

It's never too old. I started in my early 40's and I'm the oldest competing dancer in Nova Scotia. I've danced beside 10year olds who whooped my *** more times than I can count, but I've managed to whoop theirs once or twice. Older dancers are making a place for themselves and I would encourage you to give it a try. It's easy to learn, but the degrees of technicality will keep you interested for a long time. It's also goal-oriented with exams (medal testing) so there's something for the non-competition dancer as well. AND, you get to wear a real kilt!!! If you're interested we can take this to a pm.

That's correct, Ron. With impressionable children watching. Think on that.

One can only wonder how Walt Disney, and his artists, avoided arrest...

Walt has been dead for over 40 years so unlikely to be arrested at this stage.
