I've joined the Maple Leaf kilt owners club!

I have wanted a Maple Leaf tartan kilt from the first time I saw one on the forums. It's definitely one of my all time favorite tartans. Back in October I scored an 8yd. Maple Leaf tank on Ebay for under $200! Unfortunately, it needed altering in the hips. I took it to a local kilt maker who had it in her shop for the past six months. Well, it's back in my hands now and I couldn't be happier with it. I'd also like to add that this picture really emphasizes my need to get down to my summer weight. Upstate NY winters, the couch and junk food has really taken it's toll.

Woo hoo! Well done, that lad.

What can you tell us about the fabric? Enquiring tartan junkies want to know.

I didn't get a pleat shot yet because I was just quickly trying the outfit to see if I wanted to wear it to a function I was about to attend. The kilt is 16oz. worsted wool from Burnett's & Struth pleated to sett. It was originally made for the Canadian military but had never been worn and thus ended up as surplus. This is the first kilt I've purchased that has a hidden pocket sewn onto the under apron where the sporran hangs. The pocket is made of black cotton and really wouldn't be useful for anything other than carrying paper currency, I.D. or a couple of credit cards. I'll try to get some more pics up soon.

Grand tartan, I have always like the Maple Leaf, even when I was not wearing kilts. At one time I wanted to have a sportcoat made out of some my mother bought years ago. She "gave" it to me for my birthday, but alas she cannot remember where she stashed it. I'm sure we will find it, someday.
