How about Kamloops? We are what people from the islands and Lower Mainland usually refer to as "beyond Hope."

I've been to Kamloops. The locals mooned our train as we arrived in town. "Beyond hope?" It's likely but I suppose there is always hope for the kilted.

Get thee down to Victoria and drink beer. You might be saved.

Ah, well. It's a small town. What else is there to do on a Thursday?

Mind you, it's larger than I remember from my first visit, in 1967. Quite the metropolis. So much so that I don't live in town! Bloody neighbours...

Just got back from there as a matter of fact. I drank beer. I also made a pilgrimage to see the Wizard, about which more later. The man is a kilted god.

Now here's a funny story -- funny because of your comment above. A group of us decided to take a walking tour of downtown Victoria led by a professional guide. I guess you could call him a "docent" but though the walk was billed as an "historical walking tour" it was really ghost stories. OK, cheap at twice the price, so...

During the course of the walk we meandered past the Sally Ann where one of the local dispossessed was trying to rally his mates to moon the group.

Not the first time in Vic for me by a long shot! Blew a reasonable amount of money on kilt bling and hose, ate an unreasonable amount of really good Dutch pastries, stuffed myself on curry times three, and courtesy of the Wizard found a lovely little bagel bakery (and collected a really good story from a gent who was in line ahead of me).

All in all a most enjoyable few days. Next time I'm bound that way we should get up a kilt night at the Bengal or something...

Oh, yeah, the first night. int:

It's all good, but that rice pudding is killer.

We went back later in the stay for drinks and appies, at which time I put on the kilt that went with me. It felt a little odd to be kilted in a setting that glorifies the Raj, I must say.

My other two curry inoculations were at Green Cuisine -- one of my favourite places to go downtown though I'm not a vegan. More of a "committed flexitarian."

Ruth and I will be in Victoria for May 15, 16 and 17. I'm recovering from something like 22 hours of surgery over the last couple of months, so am really looking forward to this break. Where are we gathering on the 15th and at what time? Will FK be open that day (I would like R to see a working Canadian kilt-maker)?
