That tie is a bit loud. A trick that I use to "get away with" a loud tie is to wear a waistcoat. Not a PC waistcoat, but one that covers most of the chest. That way, less of the tie is showing, and won't so easily "overpower" the kilt.

As far as the shirt is concerned, the light blue looks a bit out of place. I wouldn't go with white, but that's up to you. I just have a thing against white dress shirts. Try a different color, you might find another shirt/tie combination that works really well.

I'll echo what's been said- white shirt, and I hate that tie with the kilt. They clash. Either wear a tie in the same tartan, or a solid color. (Just my opinion of course!)

In all honesty the sleeves are too long, the rest is just fine.I am not a mason so please forgive me, but I think the badge on the sporran could do with going on a holiday too, if it is not part of the regalia.

    Regimental/ School tie

Channeling Ted who asks the questions that the rest of us want to ask but are afraid to....
I thought that the regimental and or school tie {which I assume this is] was the only acceptable exception to the "solid tie with a tartan" rule?

I don't know what tie is being worn. Perhaps a better way to ask the question is:

Understanding that tartan ties are not to be worn with a kilt, what type of patterned four-in-hand tie would be acceptable?

Just a suggestion on how to ask the question; I'm not asking.

Rogerson, I have to ditto all of the above. I don't know what level of dress your valley wears, but the Valley of Atlanta would find you quite appropriately attired in that outfit. (Not the green one!)

I wouldn't change much of anything else. I do think that the sleeves are too long, but a tailor can fix that easily. If you'll note in the examples given, the white cuff of the shirt should show approximately 1/2" - 1" below the jacket cuff. The shirt sleeve should reach to the base knuckle of the thumb, not the 2nd knuckle as you have it.

I must say, that's a nice outift overall. Do you have a chapter of the Knights of St. Andrew in your valley?

P.S. I think the sporran badge is way too big for anything other than what you're planning to wear it for, but for the valley, I'd say go ahead. (I was just rereading Jock's comment, and he was kind of right, IMHO)

And that belt in the green photo is very interesting. What is it? Where'd you get it? Got a better close up?

Inquiring minds want to know. ith:

    1. do not lose belt.
    2. do not use dress shirt. sux with sporran.
    3. with this sporran, open the first button of your shirt and loosen your tie, or just lose the tie.
    4. sleeves are fine.

    tadaah.

p.s. I don't know the level of formality but that's what I'd do
