Hi,
I have been reading these boards for a while but didn't feel I had much to add to the conversation due to the sad lack of actual kilts in my life.
I'd love my boyfriend to wear the kilt more often (he only has one a GB Heritage of Scotland job he got for going to Download festival last year so he wouldn't mind kicking around in a field in it) and I started looking here for ideas on how to coerce him into my way of thinking!

One of the reasons I finally decided to join and start posting here is because I'd love to learn how to make kilts for Robert and our friends. Most of us are at the punk/goth end of things fashion-wise and though a lot of the guys like kilts it is hard to find one in the style we prefer (they all seem to have near-identical plain black cotton-type kilts that - to be honest - are basically skirts and flimsy ones at that).

I'm also into steampunk and I have never seen a steampunk kiltie before - I think the traditional kilt could be really interesting as part of a "punk-period" outift and am looking forward to learning more about the kilt as worn in the Victorian era - or even seeing if anyone else here has tried that sort of thing!

My grandad recently donated just over 3 yards of weathered red 13oz wool to me (I have NO idea where it came from OR why he thought I might need it) and I have decided to have a go at making the X-kilt with black waistband, stitching and cargo pockets if I can cope! It will be for a (skinny) friend for Download this year so if I mess up it won't matter too much as long as it doesn't fall off!

Nice to say "HI" finally, I'm looking forward to learning a lot here!

Laura
