Snow melted=first full practice with "The Beast"-with pics!

Snow finally all melted so on a perfect sunny day it was time to finally get to a full practice. Suprised myself by hitting 25's repeatedly with the Braemar and stayed around 60 with the 16 hammer. Hope this is a good sign for the upcoming summer.

I also finally got to get out my new practice caber--"the beast". It's a hacked on pressure treated 8X8-shaved a bit to knock off the corners-- that I made just to practice picking. I can turn most cabers I can pick, but with my knee still coming back, picking can be a challenge--so I decided to make a caber that really beat on me to pick. This thing weighs about 115 lbs--and feels 'dead' becuse there's no taper.

Can't wait to start--May 2nd I'll be in Knoxville! Hope all your practices are going well--and those of you already in competition--good luck!

I shaped a 15 foot 6 x 6 for our "big" practice caber, and picking something that thick is hard. An 8 x 8 is even thicker! EeeEooowww! The other two cabers we have on the field are an 11' 8" 50 pounder for our newbs, a 14 foot 60 pounder for the up-and-coming guys and the shaped 15 foot for a Real Challenge.

I gotta weigh our big stick. I'm guessing it's about 90 pounds. I can pick it, no problem but can't get much more than 70 deg. with it for now.
