Kilts Try to Save Brandywine
Here in Pennsylvania, the Governor is cutting back funds to historical areas: places like Conrad Weiser Homestead, Bushy Run, Fort Pitt, and Brandywine. These are very important places of our heritage, to all Americans. Yesterday a friend of mine sent me the following article and the photo, taken several years ago, features my group: Muskets of the Crown, Inc. as 42nd RHR, Grenadier Company. The Grenadier company we portray was actually at the battle of Brandywine in 1777. Although a bit knock kneed (whatsup with that, it must have been because I was standing on a side hill!!), that's me with the white tassel on sporran.

Our historical sites are not "frills" but essential to our identity as a nation and incredibly important it educating younger generations about "who" and "what" we are. Hard to keep an eye on where you going when you don't know where you've been.
Best of luck keeping those sites alive and well. The photos, btw, are excellent.

I amazed at how little some folks know about our history. If we lose our historic sites how much harder will it be to bring history alive to the younger generation?

Without wanting to get too close to political discussion, it's not to the advantage of many in our government today to have people well educated in history.
I think our founding fathers are spinning in their graves at very high RPM!

Sad to see Bushy Run on the axe-man's list; for those who are not aware, two Highland regiments served in that battle during Pontiac's Rebellion, The 42nd & 77th Regiments of Foot.
Seems to me the Pa. Scottish community should be rallying for battle.
It makes the heart sad to see how history is forgotten about; reminds me of the wee bit of verse found on the sentry box on Gibraltar:
God and the soldier we both adore,
in time of ruin -- and not before.
The battle is o'er, and both are requited.
God is forgiven -- and the soldier slighted.

Todd,
The verse stands true to those of us that returned from Vietnam.
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
The speed and torque of our Founding Fathers Spin could easily power our whole nation.

Aye, Steve...tradition dates that verse to The Duke of Marborough's time. Funny how some things never change.
For those of us who have worked at historic sites & battlefields, there is a strong feeling of being someone's voice, since they no longer have theirs.
