How Narrow of me
Sorry, I wish I could edit the title of this thread to "Wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband." That was narrowmindedness on my part! I hope I did not leave anyone out.

It would be quicker and easier to list the one or two things my wife likes instead of what she doesn't like but I know she hates kilts. She hates pleats on men or women. She hates it that pleats exist. She grudgingly once implied in passing that I looked good in my kilts but she did not want to be seen anywhere with me in one.

I have been wearing kilts for a little over a year. At first, my wife thought it looked like a skirt, she couldn't get around the notion that skirts are for women, pants are for men. She would get very upset over my kilts, but she would recover later to say she understood my logic and that she was working on it.
Lately, she says the kilts are OK with her and when we are out together, she doesn't even notice it. She has on occasion said that it looked good, and once or twice that it looked cute (I am not going for cute, but I will take it as a compliment).
We are at a point now where I am free to wear it where and when I want to. Thus, I can explore this freely. I will say I am not always in the mood for dealing with certain people's questions, thus, depending on my mood and the particular people to be encountered, I make my decision whether or not to wear my kilt.
I know that I am approaching a point where that will no longer matter to me, any group of people, any event will serve as a reason to wear my kilt. But I am not quite there yet.
My daughter (23) is OK with it, my son (27) is not outspoken, but I know he thinks I am a little odd.

My wife.........
My wife actually got my first kilt for me. She even measured me for it without my knowing what she was up to, ( that's how surprised I was when I got it!) I think that she prefers that I only wear it to highland games, etc but it is getting used to the fact that it will become a more frequent article of clothing. Overall I think she has just accepted the fact that I'm maybe not all there.
Regards,
David

My bride of 20 years has liked the kilt from the beginning. I jonesed for years for a kilt, and now that I have my tank she likes them even more. Whether wearing one of my SKs when rattling around the house or wearing my tank whilst oot and a boot, she'll almost always give me an "aggressive" kilt check. And she finds the plethora of highly-favorable reactions from the ladies very appealing. For example: Last weekend two ladies cornered me in pub (Culhane's in Jacksonville, FL) and DEMANDED to look up my kilt. I then had to physically stop one from lifting the apron! My wife's reply? I told you, you're hot! Yes, life is good.

My girlfriend of 3 1/2 years was there when I bought my two kilts, and doesn't seem to have too much of an objection to it. I don't wear it enough to bother her, but I hope to wear it more in the future, and then maybe we'll see what she truely thinks!

Since I only have the one tank that I wear, it's only worn for for special occasions and Highland games. We are going out to our favorite restaurant with some friends next week and she told me "You will wear your kilt!". I gotta find time now to finish my waistcoat.

Simple answer - If she doesn't like the kilt, then she isn't my wife or girl friend ! !

My wife hates the kilt. Whenever I wear it she asks me, "Are you wearing that damned skirt again?" I'm trying to take her to more scottish events, but there are only just so many out there. As a matter of fact, I had the kilt before (and I know this sounds really wierd & it's a whole story by itself) I found out that I was 25% scottish. At least now I can use that as part of my reason to wear it, but that only takes a little of the pressure off. I really envy you guys whose wives are supportive of the kilt. I'm going to have to get some advice from the ladies on this thread on how to win her over. Please.......I'm open to suggestions.
