Social Groups and an invitation to the Gentlemen and Ladies of XMTS
Hey everyone!
I'm not sure how many of you are aware that X Marks the Scot.com has a "Social Group" feature. It hasn't been mentioned a lot yet, and in fact, it might not be so obvious at first glance to find. If you go to the top of the XMTS forum, there is a blue bar with links on it. You'll see a "Quick Links" second from the right, in between "Search" and "Log Out." Click "Quick Links", and a drop-down bar opens, with some more options. You'll see a few headers, and "Networking" is one... under that is "Social Groups".
You'll see a neat list of groups that have been formed by some of our
members... groups for specific Clans/Names, musicians, athletes, and many
others (with more to come, I'm sure).
Last week I was invited to one created by Jamie (Panache) called "The Order
of the Dandelion"
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/group.php?groupid=42
I read the description and knew it summed up how I felt about XMTS and I was happy to join up with other people who felt the same way. XMTS has been a great experience for me, helping me to open up and make new friends, not to mention learn about kilts and tartans, along with a lot of other interesting things!
On the OotD social group messages Jamie encouraged all the members to invite those that felt the same as us about XMTS. He wrote:
"To all my fellow Dandelions,
I am delighted that you all thought enough of this idea to join. I know that
it is my great pleasure to consider myself part of your good company.
I put it to all of you to mention this group to other X Markers that you
feel share the same values as we do, those that love XMTS as much as we and who post in a way that promotes good fellowship.
Invite them to join.
Let us continue to lead by good example and continue to help make XMTS one of the very best online communities on the world wide web!
I doff my plumed hat to all of you!
Cheers
Jamie"
I thought about who I would invite and it occurred to me that there were so
many people in this great place that should be invited. Some of you I've
known a long time, but I'm still meeting new people every day -- I couldn't
possibly do it on my own with PM's only. It seemed easiest to just put a
thread up with the link and let everyone have a chance to check it out and
decide if they felt about it and XMTS as I do. I hope that is OK with you
Jamie!
The Order of the Dandelion isn't for everyone, but for those who have real
pride in our forum come join us!

(p.s. I wasn't sure where to put this, so if a mod needs to move this to a more appropriate forum, thanks so much!)

I joined the Dandelion group, and I've also started a social group for a tartan. It was easy.
Thanks for reminding us, Cynthia.

Cynthia;
I for one, thank you for such a gracious invitation. I have gone back and read the postings on the group and would be "Honored" to be excepted into their ranks. I am fairly new to this board and already feel as part of a large family of wonderful, sharing people who truly care about where they are heading and what they want to accomplish here.
Again thank you for sharing!

I'm a member of the Chicago Kilted social group. It's an easy way to get in touch when there's a Chicago-area event

It's an under-used function of this forum, thanks for the reminder!

hmmm
I have noticed there is not much action in the MW Social group, it is kind of a easily forgotten feature.

Cynthia,
Thanks for spreading the word
Hank (highlandtide) XMTS' owner really liked the idea behind the "The Order of the Dandelion"
He was happy to join and made the dandelion icon Glen (McMurdo) designed into an official XMTS smiley to represent the group and what it stands for!
The code is : o o t d : (but without any spaces)
I raise my glass to all my fellow dandelions!
