Last night the movie theater I'm manager at did after prom showing for two high schools, one school came right after prom and most students were still dressed up, and oh boy, most looked quite dashing but there were a few lads who needed more than a clue.......

I used to be all about jeans, a t-shirt, and Converse low tops for a while. If the weather got cold, I would trade the shoes for some boots and throw a hoodie or peacoat on. Even when I got my first black Utilikilt, I didn't wear it all the time, mainly just out with friends. Now that I have a kilt in a tartan, I am always wearing it when I am not at work, and sometimes there too. I still wear a t-shirt with it, but I make an effort to make sure it matches, or at least looks good. I still wear the low tops too (have an arch problem and my insoles fit them great.) If I am going to go out somewhere, I normally throw a nice, buttoned shirt on with the kilt and maybe some hose and flashes if I am feeling dashing.

Sean Connery does not dress as well as James Bond. (or even Alex Trebeck)

Even with my UK's I find myself paying more attention to my over all look. It took kilts for me to even begin to think about whether my sox match my shirt. The first time I wore a tartan kilt was the first time in my life I fused with sox/hose. It has definitely had an affect on my sense of style and dress.

Smart
When people I don't know stop me in the street to compliment me on wearing the kilt, the commonest word they use is "smart" - "You look very smart".
That puzzled me at first. I was not used to having that word applied to me. But exactly as Wyldathart has said, I too pay a lot more attention to the other items of my dress - does it match? will it go with this tartan? - when I'm wearing the kilt than I ever did with trousers. And of course that does make for a more coherent presentation that clearly does impress.
Since I like the attention, I go on doing it
