Well, I do have a pair of cream StillWater kilt hose sitting over there... Should I soak them in hot coffee?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I prefer dark blue hose with kilts then maybe black.
Does anyone have a preferance...
I much prefer colors, usually that compliment the primary color of my tartan. I wear rifle green with my saffron, and although I got a pair of black hose to wear with my only black tartan (New World Celts), I've only worn them a couple of times; I found that I much prefer the rifle green hose (with my Tricolor flashes). On the whole, I find tartans quite beautiful, in no small measure due to the interplay of color, which for my tastes isn't at all enhanced by accessorizing like Darth Vader.

Naw - best to drink the coffee and leave 'em be. I kinda like the brown hose as shown in one of your photos. They go well with the other items in the ensemble.
Me, I wear black or navy hose, occasionally brown, but NEVER EVER white. White hose picks up the dirt and looks scruffy soon as. Besides, black shows off my shapely legs to the best
Ah, yes, time for some hot coffee!

My rule of thumb is that the kilt hose should not draw the eye away from the kilt. So in my thinking white hose with many tartans would cause too much contrast, but white hose with a light grey kilt might be ok.

My tartan (Douglas Modern) has a nice little white stripe in it; and one of my favorite pair of hose is a pair of hand-knit aran cableknit hose that I have. They look great!
I also have my tartan hose, which I have yet to actually wear to an event.
Usually, you'll find me pairing my tartan with purple (yes, purple) hose, one pair being very casual (the $20 kilt hose variety) and one pair being quite a bit nicer (Lewis hose from STM). I use white garter ties with these hose to match the stripe in my kilt, and it looks amazing.
I like the effect of purple for two reasons: first, in the Douglas Modern, there is a bit of purple in there, it's not a main color, but it occurs where two of the main colors collide. Secondly, pairing those hose with a matching dress shirt really frame the kilt nicely and bring out the variety of colors in the tartan.
Plus, I look good in purple shirts, and I feel the same about white shirts as some other members feel about white hose. They're great for a school uniform, but seriously, with so many colors in the rainbow, why would you wear a white shirt?
Just my $.02

Well, at first, all I had were the pair of cream hose. I spacifically tried to put together an ensemble of different brown colors. It was from MacMillan of Rathdown suggestions, so, of course, it came together well.
I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing hose that are close to a color that is also found in the kilt or the jacket; it's just a way to decide. I think the bottle green hose might have worked well with the same outfit.
And I do need to dye those cream hose to a color.

ive got cream hose ,they actually belonged to my other halfs grandfather who has since passed away, i plan to wear them with my kilt regardless of other folks opinion mainly due to the respect i have for the old irishman, they are about 50 years or more old and where handmade as far as im aware ,
i reckon most folk i know who wear kilts at certain functions well in this part of scotland tend to wear white most of these folk have hired a kilt package at some point and when buying there own ended up buying white not knowing there is no law stating you must wear white
as much as i would love other colours im wearing mine for that personal reason but i do intend on getting other colours to match the kilt when i get it ,if come into some money i think i`ll be buying a pair of tartan ones as soon as i can though reading through some of the threads on the site regarding tartan hose made me relise just how great looking they are
