no size choice...
In my experience, they only offer one size, and you won't know how long they are 'til they arrive. I had to send back a too-short 34-inch set, and they replaced them with a 28-inch pair that will not go around my legs!

You might take a look at your local fabric store. They often have woven "tape" of different fabrics and weight that is used to re-enforce seams, and that work quite well as garter ties. You can buy them in any length you want. And for a dollar or so per yard.
You may have to sew the end if you want to fray it, (or hem it, of course)but some are so tightly woven that that isn't really necessary.

I can knit you some of them, which would be like the "Snake Garters" that Puffer posted about a couple of months ago. They could be any length you wanted, any color, and would stretch to about 1 1/2 times their original length. PM me if you're interested.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Ouch! I have 4 pairs, and one was just a tad shorter than the rest; but all close to 36 inches.
KM, you can make your own with a little device called a spool knitter and a ball of yarn. Here's one.
Some members will custom knit them for you:

Not true. I've purchased the 44" length myself, just recently. They are on the site, below the others. They do not have as wide a range of colors, however.

Have you talked to Matt via e-mail or phone? In my (and a lot of other folks around here) experience, He's very easy to work with. You might even be able to catch him here via PM.
Besides, your purchase helps support a worthwile cause -- the STM. Every kiltie should want to see the museum thrive.
