I just find that I don't feel fake. In a kilt I don't have to subscribe to whatever the latest trend in fashion is. I don't worry if my pants are too tight or not long enough. Also, it opens up avenues of conversation with people rather easily. I talked to a few people at a social event last night that I normally wouldn't have said much to, and found that they are quite nice people. One had even been to a few highland games when he was younger.
I don't think a kilt is the end all for happiness, but it helps get me a bit closer.
