I don't fear wearing the kilt as I just let the stupid comments roll of my back like water off a duck's back.
Do some off you gage the situation and avoid wearing the kilts to some places?

I've been nervous when wearing my kilt out. Never afraid to do so, though.

Like Green Dragon, nervous but never afraid. Actually, the most nervous I've been so far has been when I decided to wear my Black Stewart to WalMart. Got some stares and a couple of questions about tartans and their meaning, but that was it.

I wouldn't say I've been "afraid" when wearing my kilt. I think in the spirit of what previous posts have indicated, I've worn my kilt to places where I knew I would have to exercise a little more "situational awareness." However, I have NEVER felt in actual physical danger - just an easy target for the (REMARKABLY FEW) negative comments usually spewed from alcohol-saturated bumpkins. On a few occassions I have opted to not wear my kilt as I didn't want to attract the inevitable attention. Sadly, I usually end up wishing I would've worn it anyways!

So far, I've had no reason to be afraid. I haven't really felt nervous and I'm not sure why... I thought I would be more nervous than I actually have been. The only grief I've gotten is from my 10 year-old daughter who doesn't like it when I walk her to school wearing the kilt. She says she gets teased about it.

Many times in my life I have been afraid and or nervous, but never, never for the cloths I wear. I no longer even own any of the hated cloth tubes. I wear the kilt as my chosen mode of attire every day. Everything I do, that requires covering, I do kilted.
Forgive me for saying so, but the mere idea of being afraid to wear the kilt seems ludicrous to me.
But, if you feel nervous or afraid to wear the kilt, by all means don't wear it. The kilt should be, and is for me, a pleasure to wear.

What you're really asking is if I'm afraid of ignorance and intolerance. Usually, no. Sometimes, yes. No point denying it.

Your mom does have a point, people do get "jumped" for no reason at all these days. That means though that you shouldn't go to that game at all because you might get jumped regardless of what you're wearing.
I say go and wear your kilt. If anything, people will be paying so much attention to you that any trouble makers will want to think twice about attacking a guy that is so public.
If you're still abit worried about it, remember not to put yourself in a situation where it makes it easy to get jumped...like walking through a darkened parking lot by yourself or standing under the grand stands waving handfuls of cash about saying "jump me!".

Do you know Colonel, I have never thought of kilt wearing in those terms before and I have given more than a wee bit of thought to the subject before replying. I think that as I was brought up wearing the kilt,in a kilt wearing area, that was and still is, second nature for me and holds no threat, real or otherwise, for me.I have been anxious, afraid even, on occasion, but never ever about wearing the kilt.

I have only been threatened once. I turned to the guy and asked if he had ever been beaten by a 57 year old man in a skirt. He settled down quickly.
