    Talking Tired of wearing pants??

    Say Aye!

I was at the Metro station. I couldn't resist.

It was a beautiful day in the city. Went to see a free concert (www.fmmc.org) at the lunchhour: string quartet, mezzo-soprano, a little opera singing, a little Dvorak! Can you imagine this place has been doing this free concert and other eclectic musical events for 122 years, for free!!

Anyway, on the way, I was approached by a metro worker who immediately asked what clan tartan I was wearing. We had a nice conversation especially when said that I made the kilt myself. He was into costumes and re-enactment and was looking to get the "Polaris" tartan kilt. Polaris is new to me (as are thousands of others)...

While crossing the street at an intersection towards the building where the concert was being held, I heard a honk from a white van as it was driving past and I saw the driver wildly waving at me.

Since it was lunch hour, you could imagine how many people were coming out of their federal offices and venturing out to forage for food - I was the only one kilted. It must have been a rare occurrence there.

Just before walking into the building, I had another compliment from a restaurant worker who was out taking a break.

Overall a beautiful day to be out and about and this really was one of the first times that I ventured out into the public with no special reason other than to be out kilted.

Oh by the way this is my latest and greatest DIY kilt, in the box-pleat design. The tartan is called "Bear" tartan, made of heavyweight Jura wool. And the garters are ones that I made as well.

Looking good. The Polaris tartan is the U.S. Navy tartan associated with the Polaris submarine base formerly located at Holy Loch in Dunoon, Scotland. The base is long gone (I worked there in the 80's) and the tartan is now only available by special order.

    Best regards,

    Jake

He did say he was in the navy. Thanks for the insight.

You just have to read the fine print. He wrote its the Bear Tartan. (Its a LGBT/pride related tartan as I learned from some earlier postings.)

    Best regards,

    Jake

That sounds great, Mein. Great tartan too!

And yes, it is the GLBT related Bear tartan.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Hello Puffer. Thank you. It is called the Bear Tartan and is associated with the GLBT community. Many folks are drawn to its design & colors regardless of their personal associations. Please worry not. There is the Bear Tartan Social group on here as well that was started by none other than our own Ted Crocker.

And take a closer look in a previous thread of mine discussing the box-pleat construction. This is the Box-pleat Bear Tartan Kilt #02 that came from the same bolt.
