What I really ought to do is finish the one I started that brought me here in the first place....

    Ali,

Good to see you pop in. I've enjoyed your posts, the picture of you wearing your X Marks scarf is striking. Whether you have any Scots heritage or not, you have a clan here.

There's a cure for that you know, write. Write about anything for 15 mins, stream of conciousness, stories, poems, dirty jokes, whatever, just don't touch what you're working on. Don't think about it, don't let it peek around the corner. Writing about unrelated things helps put your mind in the right frame for writing. After your 15 minutes either work on your project or don't. Just make sure you do the 15 mins in a block of time that you've set aside for writing. When you're done either work on your project or don't but after a few day's you'll probably be making progress.

I used to have major writer's block problems till I started doing the above. Now I've just got a problem getting the time to write. 15 mins is hard to come by for me right now.

That's good advice, thanks--I'll try that. I should have plenty of time now that the Lakers have advanced to the next level of the playoffs (or however you would say that) I'm not a big fan like my Husband is so I have to occupy myself while he is watching.

Ali, it's always nice to read your posts. We'd all miss you if you didn't check in from time to time. You said you have writer's block, which is one of the worst ailments known to man. Hope you can relax and get back to the business of writing soon.

The advice is indeed sound. I am a songwriter and when I have a block to overcome, I just write everything down on a piece of paper. Write about the game he's watching, the sound of the refrigerator in the kitchen, the family you walked past in the store. Do you have an area in the house where you always write? Re-arrange it.. or change the spot all together.

Writer's Block is one of the worst things I have ever experienced... but when it's broken.. it's an amazing feeling. Hard to describe unless you go through it... and you will. Trust me, this will pass.

    Good luck!

I will, I'd miss you all too much if I didn't. Sometimes I just feel like I'm sneaking into a mens club, which isn't bad per se, just intimidating ;)
