I've never been asked, but always intended to use the same line as Rex and tell them they'd have to ask me on a date to find out. I've never thought about what if a guy asked me, but I'd probably just look at him weird and ask if he really wanted to know in a tone that would hopefully stave him off. Though I might just tell him "Same thing as I would wear under pants."

The conclusion I've come to is that because the kilt is still so rarely seen by the public and they somewhat think of it as "costume", and since they have preconceptions about it (e.g. underwear not being worn under it and the wearer must know how to play the bagpipes) they simply can't help but to find out the truth to these age old curiosities. They think it's an innocent question to ask. I think this question won't go away until the kilt is seen more regularly by the public.

My canned response to a woman that asks is "What do you wear under a skirt"? Usually gets a sly smile or similar reaction but it stops them dead!

Honestly, I wonder if some women say things to men without realizing how suggestive they are being. I know that there are plenty of women out there that know exactly what they are doing all of the time, and exactly how rude they are being (although I could argue that there is something amiss psychologically in these women, but that's another post for another time)--but I think that we can safely say that there are a large number of women that really don't realize how inappropriate they are being. I can imagine this being the case because I have myself --when I was single-- said a wild thing or two cloaked in naivety only to realize later how forward I had been. I think this must have been the case with your online friend Ron, because she backed down after you put her in her place.

Please know that I am not condoning the behavior, just thinking about possible explanations.

Asked the same to a woman: she took half a step back, smiled and.....
I gave her a salute, executed a left face and moved out smartly.

I've been asked "The Question" mostly by other men. However, it has been primarily for educational puposes; as they had seen the attention garnered from the ladies to the kilt wearer and wanting to get a kilt themselves wanted to learn how to wear it properly.

I know a few women who DO know exactly how suggestive they are being, and seem to relish the sport of trying to make a man blush, or call their bluff. Sometimes it can be a fun little game; at others it can get out of hand very quickly. In my experience, it's usually older women (than me) who still enjoy the thrill of the chase, but can't handle the catch.

There is one woman I know who never seen me in a kilt, but has clearly states she will find out what's under my kilt when I wear it in her presence... It's kind of funny to be honest with you since I shown her my kilt to prove they do not have built in shorts ...sometimes I have to believe she is not that daft, but who knows?

this is kind of what I mean though-- they're just out for the fun of it and don't always want to follow through. Who knows though? Women can be so hard to figure out

I go to my local pub a lot in a kilt. (Flying Saucer in Fort Worth, in case someone wants to come some time) I have been walking into the pub and had a drunk guy coming out with his wife. He stated "Hey, whatcha wearing under the skirt?" I reached for the edge of my kilt and looked at him and asked "do you really want to know?" He back-pedaled into the wall and his wife slapped his shoulder and he sheepishly said "no". The rest of the people who see me there all the time started laughing and had a good one on the guy.

Another time, I was in this same pub and had a lady (about my age) call me over. I went over, she was sitting and I stood near the couch she was on, but far enough away that I could move quickly in case of a KC. She did reach toward me but stopped when I looked at her. She grinned and flirted with me all the rest of the time she was there. I did not encourage it but it was a nice complement.

Most of the time, when I am there, the new customers assume I work for the place as all the lady waitresses are in mini-kilts. I kindly answer the questions they give me (bathroom locations, beers to suggest, food to suggest, etc.) and I point them to one of the waitresses if it is not something I can or should handle (drink or food orders.) I also, respond that I do not work for the place which is responded with 'then why do you wear a kilt (skirt)?'

Wolfhawk, I think the best reply I seen on the forum, as to why you are wearing a kilt is..." Because I like astrology"... LOL
