    MacMillan has a good point. If you like the pipe band tartan, go with it. But you can always (I might ask permission) don their family tartan.

    Here's another angle:
    If you plan to wear the kilt at occasions other than your wedding, you'll want to buy your own.
    If you plan to wear it only to the wedding, and never again, maybe you could borrow one from one of the 'pipers in the City band.

    My guess is, though, that once you wear it at the wedding and/or reception, you'll want to wear it more and more.
