			Black Kilt Ensemble/Outifit/Attire/&c.

					Heya folks...
Still something of a noob here, and mostly just browse other people's posts, but I remember seeing something awhile back about someone who had an all-black kilt ensemble. (I also seem to remember his saying that other people razzed him about it.) I was hoping that perhaps there were some pictures out there, or that other folks might offer me advice on colour matching -- shirts, ties, hose, flashes, &c.

Recently I had the pleasure of acquiring my first "real" kilt (as opposed to a MUG -- not really a distinction I care about, but some others do), and it's a black Freedom Kilts dress model. I also have ordered a black Argyll jacket. Over the next two months, I will need to wear this combination on two occasions: one is my students' grad commencement ceremonies (I teach highschool); the other is their grad banquet and dance.

For the commencement, I have bottle green kilt hose and black flashes, and a bottle green dress shirt. I have no idea what colour necktie to wear, but was thinking black since I like to keep things simple, subdued, and dark. There's also a semi-dress sporran in black leather, with white bovine hair facing and a silver Scotch thistle on the flap.

For the banquet I was thinking all black (black hose, black dress shirt), but with a cream/"oatmeal"/otherwise off-white tie... alas, I wouldn't know what to do for flashes. Off-white too? And I have a dress sporran with cantle and white and brown bovine hair facing.

Okay, my post is turning into a total mess of randomness.
I have no brain. I'll just leave this here for responses, thoughts, criticisms, and maybe a picture of someone's black kilt attire.

If you're going to go black - go all the way - everything black. IMHO

That certainly is a consideration for the kids' banquet.

Personally, I find the Johnny Cash ensemble a less than optimum choice in the daylight hours. If it's a night occasion, then I actually find it a very smart option. The all black is a very elegant look, but like everything has its place. IMHO.

Agreed. I am leaning towards all black for the banquet the more that I think about it.

Thanks much for this, Mr. McMurdo! Couldn't find it again after I went looking.

Very interesting. Out of the kilt, I am a generally all-black kind of bloke - the most colour is usually a shirt. I've been coveting an all black kilt suit for some time, but also like the idea of a charcoal grey tweed crail jacket and vest and can't decide which to go for first!
I do think the all-black would be best for the evening, and I personally wouldn't go for any creams or off-whites at all. I don't go for the open-neck shirt for an all black outfit a la Jamie, but that's just my own opinion.

 All the best
 Graham.

I too used to be all-black kind of guy, but I think it was a better look when I was in better shape. Jamie looks pretty sharp, but again I think he can get away with it 'cause he's got a slimmer build.

So. The banquet wear, then, I'm thinking is settled: all black, including a black tie.

But I will continue to ponder...
