Kilted Wedding

My wife's brother got married this weekend. The groom and his men wore kilts (including myself.) He had his kilt made in the Wood tartan (his surname.) The other two guys wore Black Watch, and I wore my Seaforth kilt. They had a piper, and I cannot remember his name, but he's pretty popular.

I'll have to upload some pictures of the actual event this evening, and then some more after the photographer gets the pictures ready.

For starters, here's my kilt in reconstruction. The pleats were in sorry shape when I got it about a year ago or so, but the actual kilt is really beautiful and held up well the past 57 years.

This first picture shows how far I had gotten with basting.


And the second is kind of a close up of how the pleats were looking from below.


My wife has all the good pictures on her camera at home. I'll be sure to snag it and get some pictures up here.

I bought it from somebody on here. It just happens to be a perfect fit for me. Somebody in 1952 had the same physique as me.

I'll see if I can remember who it was.

Edit : robthehiker was the fellow. If I'm not mistaken, it's a 28" waist, which is about how big my stomach is below my rib-cage. This thing has to be worn way up high, in military style. When I got it, one of the straps was broken, so I ordered some from SWK and somewhere else. Decided the SWK ones were nicer and replaced just the one strap. It doesn't have a strap on the left, but a button and a small loop, which I don't use. It gets tight enough that I can wear it without having anything fall.

We got some pretty good pictures of our hand-fasting ceremony, so I'll be sure to upload those as well. My wife and I, along with our pastor and officiant, didn't want the photographer in front of the pews, so there's only a few good photos.

So did you re-press the pleats? I am assuming that is what you were putting the basting stitches in for. Looks like a nice kilt, can't wait to see it in use.

Yessir. I measured about 2/16" of green outside the white stripes on both sides at the end of the sewn portion. At the bottom of the kilt, some of the pleats were very close to 1" of green! It is military box pleated, so it was pretty difficult getting the pleats to do what I wanted them to. After all was said and done, it looks marvelous however. I'm very happy with it.
