A Labyrinth of Jericho belt buckle is on its way to you, a gift for the Captain. Thank you for being his outfitter.
I have chosen the labyrinth design for good reason.
In medieval times, the labyrinth symbolized a hard path to God with a clearly defined center (God) and one entrance (birth). Thus, the labyrinth retains its connection with the the cycle of birth, death, and triumphant return.
Labyrinths have been used as symbolic forms of pilgrimage. Walk the path, and thus ascend toward salvation or enlightenment. Many people could not afford to travel to holy sites and lands, so labyrinths and prayer substituted for such travel.
Labyrinths are used by modern mystics to help achieve a contemplative state. Among the turnings, one loses track of direction and of the outside world, and thus quiets ones mind.
I hope that the Captain finds peace in all, and satisfaction in his new dress.

After reading that sad story I read on through the thread and seeing the amazing support you are getting brought a tear to my eye.
I am not in a position to help at the moment but I am into making hats, though I have nothing in the pipeline at the moment. If he wants something similar to a balmoral, then sometime in the not too distant future I would enjoy making him one.

Hey Guys and Gals-
You know-I have not seen the Captain now in 2 days and am a bit worried. He still has no clue that I'm going to TOTALLy get him on board the kilted army in GGRAND style. Here's what we have so far-
1)-Semi-Traditional Kilt from USA KILT -Black Watch tartan
2.)-A Belt Buckle
I'm handling the sporran for him
The Captain (I want to refrain from using his name completely so it doesn't show up when googled) is very proud of his military career, so I was thinking if anyone has a lead, or an extra No.2 style cut away service jacket, that would be great(Hey Nervous Jock....). If someone has a pair of hose in olive or loden green, that would be great too. An Argyll jacket would be nice if a No.2 can't be had. Does anyone have a line on Tam O Shanters? Not the W P G ones, but the current issue. I was thinking of getting one and stitching a small Iraqi flag on the side instead of a tartan badge backing. ANy ideas on a badge for that matter? Also, flashes are needed and a belt. There has been some atrophy, and I will provide measurements soon. Anyone else have any ideas for this guy? He's really not going to believe it....You can't imagine what htis is gonna mean!!! Thanks to everyone! -Josh

I like this idea, and I further like how X-Markers are contributing to this gentleman's kit.
How do you suppose he'll receive it? Will he feel beholden to the Rabble, or to you? I don't know about Iraqi gift-giving customs, but that might be something to consider in order to make this as positive an experience as it can be.

No time to make flashes right now but I do have suitable Black Watch remnants. Anybody who can make them up, PM me and I'll mail the fabric to you.
