I have two SKs and one Lochcarron tank. I wear my SKs when knocking around house, town or when not concerned about dressing to the nines. Last Wednesday, April 29th, my SK Black Stewart with day sporran, black hoodie and Birkenstocks were a huge hit while attending a friend's World Adult Kickball Assoc. (WAKA) League game. I don my tank when i want more visual punch. One SK is a year old, the other SK is 3 months old, my tank is 1 month old. I wear all three quite a bit. The older SK has pilled very, very slightly around the sporran area, but a clothes shaver takes care of that easily. The younger SK still looks pristine. As with previous posts, the feel (and look) of the SKs do in fact differ. The fabric of the older SK appears tighter, heavier. The fabric of the younger SK seems looser with a ve-ry slight sheen. I always press my SKs before wearing them in public, and the creasing and swish is very nice and almost comparable to wool.
My friend's kilt is an acrylic Irish National. To his credit he cares for it very well, however, the pleats always appear rounded with the overall appearance being very pilled and almost frumpy. This has turned me off from ever getting an acrylic kilt. I much prefer the presentation of my cheapy SKs over the acrylic.
And my tank? Well, I'm still searching for a worthy vocab to describe it.
