Replacement Tassle metally bit?
The title aptly shows my level of expertise
My other half got a nice hair sporran (Blackwatch type) to replace one that was tragically damaged years ago. It is in good nick apart from one tassle which lacks the metal thinggy to hold it together. I am sorry i have no idea what it is called.
I am fairly sure he'd be able to replace it himself if I were to find this metally thing for his birthday. But I need help - any good online sources or sources in the NorthEast of Scotland were I could get one. Getting the sporran into the shop is not an option, he'd notice it missing...
Any help much apprechiated

A photo might be useful so we can see what the sporran looks like and all the other 'metal thingys'

Will do, my expertise in the finer things kilt related clearly shows ;-). I know it is the standard army issue horse-hair sporran, but a photo will follow soon.

I think what you mean is a sporran tassel cone or ball, the small metal thingy at the top of the tassel. L&M sell them - I think, since you have to go through distributors to purchase from them - but take a look at this and see. (Actually, it appears that you'd have to buy the whole tassel.)
Lamont Sporrans does appear to sell just the metal bits. And since they're in Aberdeenshire, they may be more convenient. Check out their selection and their contact page for address/telephone and so on.
Hope this helps!

I assume you're talking about the cone-shaped metal piece at the end of the chain that covers the horsehair. Your best bet would be, since you live in Scotland, to check with various Highland outfitters/Rental Shops as most probably have a small collection of spare parts. Don't ignore the so-called Tat shops on the Royal Mile, they probably make most of the fittings in Pakistan anyway and could surely find an exact duplicate. There are also tassels available on eBay, the horsehair color may be wrong but you can just switch the metal thingy. www.landmhighland.com does to sporran refurbishing, any shop which sells L&M sporrans should be able to point you in the right direction.

haukehain nailed it, Lamont sporrans seems like the best place. Good show!

Or you could get handy and just make one yourself. Our DIY section is full of tidbits like this.

Lamont appears to be just up the road from me. Tassle cone it is, it still has the inside bit that holds it together so fixing a new cone should be well within my technical expertise. From the wee pictures, two seem close matches to the cones still in original order. Brilliant :-) I'll let you know how I get on. ;-)

That would be option b, but as the rest of the sporran is in really good nick, I'd rather not inflict a DIY cone on it. I am normally enthusiatic to the limit of lunacy when it comes to DIY, but I am not sure about the resulting optics (small favours it is actually one of the background tassles).
