The dancer shown on the first page of this thread is not representing any navy in the world. He's just supposed to be a generic sailor doing a sailor dance.... However, he does have a number of technical errors according to the SOBHD dress code. 1) the hat as I have previously noted, and 2) the collar must have 3 stripes. Btw, the collar according to the SOBHD must either be navy blue or denim and either type can be worn with both the navy blue or white costume.
The chin strap is there to hold the hat on during the dance. If you know of a better way please share.
Staples? sorry couldnt resist.
Something that i have just realised about the way he is wearing his hat, they are not round, and can only really be worn one way (fore and aft to use terms). that would explain why it sits so high on that chaps head(must be uncomfortable as well). if he turned it around it would sit better and the tally would be front on and then all he would need to do is re sew the chin stay, and he wouldnt look like a...well ill leave that bit out.
Navy blue or white (navy blue must be a costume colour or an american rig), commonly referred to as summer (and or tropical)(white) and winter (black - or blue for yanks)...
all those years of getting told how to wear the uniform correctly, and then seeing these kind of pics, nearly makes me eyes bleed.
