Host a Piper?
This could go in a couple of categories, but Kilts in the Media will have to do.
I just came across this article on BBC.com about a piper from Edinburgh who is hoping to "busk" his way from New York to California from early June to July, relying "on the kindness of Scots living there and people of Scottish descent to put him up on his journey."
I'm sure he could have his whole itinerary planned through X Marks!
Any money raised from the trip will be donated to charity, apparently.
And, yeah, he will wear his kilt during his travels!

His route will show him quite a bit of the country, and in the hottest time of year, too.
I assume "busking" is akin to hitch-hiking?

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Haha, I'm doing something a little like that in 2 weeks. Staying with X Markers across the country and piping for my lodging!

Since I'm not feeling especially articulate at the moment:
Busking is the practice of performing in public places for tips and gratuities. People engaging in this practice are called buskers or street performers
Thanks to Wikipedia!

Yeah, but we could never play together. You know how to get two pipers in tune, right? Shoot one.

That sounds really cool. I'm out of the way unless his route goes thru Florida.
Then he would be welcome.

Oh, this reminds me of something I saw on "Trigger Happy TV," sort of a British version of Candid Camera, wherein the host goes around doing improbable/obnoxious things and getting a reaction from ordinary folk. There was one sketch where he dressed in Highland regalia and busked with bagpipes. He approached an outdoor cafe and offered to play the pipes for two middle-aged women enjoying their lunch. They politely declined, and he "played" anyway -- making as horrendous a noise as possible while they covered their ears. After twenty seconds of this abuse, he abruptly stopped and held out his hand for a tip.
Anyway, I hope it doesn't go like this for the busker in the article.
