Leave your Boadswords and Claymores at home

Lothians police have issued a statement saying that anyone who comes to the Gathering in July at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh( the biggest clan gathering since Sir Walter Scott invited King George to come to Edinburgh and this visit reinstated the kilt as the national dress of Scotland) and brings with them a sword then they will be arrested immediately.
I suppose they are talking about the clan re-actments which faeture these weapons.
The sgian dubh will still be allowed

Maybe, but you'd be surprised at what some Americans and Canadaians wear to highland games: broadswords, claymores, pistols, dirks, Lochaber axes, machetes, maces...the display can be mind-boggling! I'm sure it is these sorts the constabulary have in mind.

This is the story from yesteday's Scotsman - http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/late...lan.5252556.jp
arrest and a possible 2 years in jail for brandishing weapons. So best to stick to a sgian dubh - that is allowed and leave the heavy metal at home.

Would be very glad to oblige the constabulary, if I could just find the financial means to make the trip. :-(

It sounds to me that they are expecting some sort of up raising. Swords, axes, etc. They should be more concerned with H&K59's,Glocks, S&W's C4,scyntex,etc,etc,etc.

In this day and age, you just cannot take the public safety for granted. It's a shame that anytime a gathering of people, it becomes a target for those with malice in their hearts.

I am sure the law enforcement agencies in Scotland will be doing everything possible, to keep the public safe.

Wow, I tried to read some of the comments and if I can't wear my Claymore or Dirk I am just not going.
Wait if I read it right the banishing of said weapon was what would get you arrested not the wearing of said item.
OK I would go if I had a ticket or the £8 Million to spend, --- Not likely.

Weapons won't be an issue for me. When I go to faires and really, anywhere, I find it best to travel as light as possible. Maybe because it's always hot in Texas, but rule of thumb for me is: Less Is More! Plus, I tend to misplace things when I'm not paying attention so leaving a broadsword behind would be a shame....for me at least....
